Charleston’s water is pretty great—soft to slightly hard with a decent pH. This combination helps water heaters and fixtures last longer compared to many other places in the US. But while the water is good for your plumbing, it’s not necessarily the best for drinking, cooking, and bathing.
In the summer, rising temperatures lead to higher chlorine levels. Chlorine is a sterilizer that can negatively impact your skin, as well as oral and gut bacteria. It’s also corrosive, wearing down gaskets and causing toilet leaks or valve failures.
As a coastal city, Charleston inherits downstream problems. Our water can contain heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, and countless unregulated chemicals. Many contaminants slip through the cracks because they aren’t strictly regulated. It is Palmer Plumbing's goal to help lesses exposure through proper water filtration.
That’s why we recommend:
Filter your water or you become the filter.

Darren Palmer, a third-generation master plumber, branched south to escape the cold winters and start a new chapter.
Darren thru hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2018 and found the true value of clean water in our eastern continental divide. Water filtration and purification was of the upmost importance along that journey to ensure a healthy passage through the 2,200 mile footpath. After the trail, Darren returned to the family business with determination to address water quality and investment longevity.
